Thayer Hall, Colburn School, 200 S. Grand Ave. (across from Disney Hall) on January 21, 2025 @ 8:00 PM.

About this unforgettable piano concertt: Doors open at 7:00 PM. Show starts at 8:00 PM.

Join Colombian American pianist Andrés Jaramillo and composers Marquez, Josh Salazar, Rodriguez for a free pre-

concert Q&A at 7:00 PM in Thayer Hall Colburn School before the concert. Don't miss it!

The panel will discuss the emotional experiences of immigrant people as represented in Dr. Marquez' composition Five Etudes on the Immigrant's Season, and how they influence the cultural and creative lives of new arrivals in the US. These stages are sometimes expressed as honeymoon, frustration, depression, adjustment andacceptance.

Colombian American pianist Andrés Jaramillo is our Leonard Stein Resident Artist for 2024/25. Dr. Jaramillo specializes in the music of contemporary LatinX composers from Latin America and the US. Every composer on this program (including six world premieres and three 30 for 30 compositions) is or was an immigrant.

Dr. Jaramillo explores, through these solo piano works, the myriad emotions, perspectives, and approaches inherent in

the immigrant experience, intertwining the composers' cultural backgrounds with those of their new homes. Dr. Jaramillo will perform new compositions by 30 for 30 composers Paola Márquez, Jorge Salazar and Josh Rodriguez.

Piano Spheres' Leonard Stein Resident Artist for 2024/25 season

Piano Spheres draws its residency candidates internationally from an exclusive pool of extremely qualified candidates. An RFP is sent to institutions of higher learning, artist managers, and like-minded concert presenters one year before our resident artist is selected.

Candidates must demonstrate an expertise in contemporary music of various cultures, and demonstrate an ability to perform this music at a very high level. They must also poses an ability to teach this music in workshop situations to the most talented piano students in Los Angeles, as well as younger students in underserved communities.

Candidates are then reviewed by Piano Spheres' committee of five Core Artists, and only the m o s t qualified c a n d i d a t e s are s e l e c t e d for p e r s o n a l interviews via teleconference. Dr. Jaramillo impressed our Core Artists with his performance via video recording, but also his

ability to articulate his expertise to students and colleagues.

Dr. Jaramillo is an extremely talented pianist and teacher, and he will be an in integral part of Piano Spheres' programming for 2024/25. Because of his particular specializations, he would be nearly impossible to replace. It is our hope to be able to sponsor him in his work in the United States as it is critical to our fulfilling our mission.
